SALTY CREW || Coast Lines: Mag Bay to the Southern California Bight || Surfing and Fishing Film

Follow the west coast from north to south, you’ll see the coastline turn back on itself. Like a door swinging open. The southern California Bight. Beckoning. Out here, the winds shift, seasons change, and the sea brings what it will. In the summer yellowtail and bluefin, white seabass in the spring, lobster when the nights turn cold. In the winter, surfers wait for the swells to come marching in from the north and the summer brings warm water and waves from the south. All the while, divers move unseen through underwater forests where the sun falls in green shafts through the golden pillars of kelp.
Now keep heading south, across the border and along the rugged spine of a peninsula. Towns grow sparse, and the desert and the sea reclaim the land. Hundreds of miles of what feels like hundreds of years from the hustle and hassle of Southern.
It’s not the coastline that shaped us, but it’s the coastline that calls to us. A sacred migration for sea life and salt water pilgrims alike. A place where refuge isn’t found in escape from the wild, but inside it.
